Nexam runs computer-based examinations on one computer in your school. No internet. No monthly outage. When the lights go out mid-paper, every student resumes with their answers and their remaining time exactly as they left them.
Most examination software assumes two things Nigerian schools cannot assume: that the internet is working, and that the electricity is on. When either fails during a paper, an online platform loses the room — and with it, the marks.
Schools respond by going back to paper: photocopying, invigilating, and marking by hand for weeks. The computer room sits unused during the one period it would be most useful.
Nexam was built the other way round. It assumes the internet is absent and the power is unreliable, and it is designed so that neither ends an exam.
Install Nexam on a single PC in the exam room. It needs Windows and 2 GB of memory — a machine most schools already own. That computer holds the questions, the answers and the results.
Every other machine simply opens a browser and types an address you write on the board. Nothing is installed on the student computers, and nothing reaches beyond your walls. Tablets work; so do fifteen-year-old desktops.
Not when the student clicks submit — every thirty seconds, to the server. A machine that dies mid-paper loses at most half a minute of work, and the student carries on from another computer.
With cloud storage, backups are sent off-site whenever the school has internet — never during an exam. They are sealed with a passphrase you choose, so we hold the file but cannot read it. If the exam computer is stolen or the room floods, the term's results are still there.
The clock is kept by the server, not by the student's computer. When the power returns and the server starts again, every paper reopens with the answers already saved and the time that was actually left — the minutes the building was dark are not charged to anybody.
The student signs in again and continues. The invigilator does nothing. This is tested, not hoped for: the test suite genuinely stops the server mid-exam and proves the paper survives.
Eight question types — multiple choice, multiple answers, true or false, fill in the blank, matching, ordering, short answer and essay, with images, audio and diagrams.
Everything but essays marks itself the moment a student submits. Short answers can be marked automatically against keywords you choose.
Essays get a rubric. Score each criterion; the total is worked out for you, and you move straight to the next student's answer rather than the next question.
Import from Excel. Paste in a question set you already have; nothing is saved until you have seen a row-by-row preview of what will be created.
The hardest-questions report. After every paper, see which questions the class found hardest — usually more useful than the marks themselves.
Who has joined, how far each student has got, how long each has left, who has left the exam window, and who has submitted — updating live. Pause the room, grant extra time, or hand in a paper for a student whose machine has died.
Question and answer order can be shuffled per student, so the screen beside you is on a different question with the options in a different order.
Question banks are encrypted on disk. A copied database file does not hand over next week's paper.
Backups are encrypted too, and taken automatically every night. They can be copied to a USB stick, which is where a school's data should also live.
Nothing leaves the building. There is no cloud account and no telemetry. Results go out only when somebody exports them deliberately.
Every change is logged — who added a student, who published a paper, who restored a backup.
A licence covers one school and a set number of student places. Plans run from Starter for a small school to Premium for a large one, with more question banks, more exams per term, and analytics and printable report cards on the larger plans.
What counts as a student place
Every installation can run three complete exams before you buy anything, with every feature switched on, so you can sit a real paper with a real class before deciding. There is no clock on it — take a term if you want one.

Plan limits are what the licence permits. They are not a capacity claim: a hundred and fifty concurrent students is what has actually been load-tested on one server, on a mid-range laptop. What a particular school can manage depends on its computer and its network, and we will say so before you buy.
